There are only three rules of bargaining firstly, never to start the process unless you want to buy; secondly, never, even in jest to let a price pass your lips that you're not prepared to pay; and thirdly, never to lose your temper. However, the lack of any tradition of bazaar-style haggling in Jordan results in a reluctance among Jordanian merchants even to embark on the process. In most everyday situations, you'll rapidly be brought up short against an unbudgeable last price -which, unlike in the Cairo or Damascus bazaars, really is the last price, take it or leave it. |
