| It’s impossible to escape cigarette smoke in the country, except during Ramadan. The anti- smoking lobby in Jordan makes little headway, and a huge majority of Jordanians both smoke themselves and assume everybody else does it's not uncommon for locals to blithely light up in a crowded taxi, then close the window against the draught. Jordan's own tobacco industry is small, with local brands (around 700 fils) less rough than Egyptian or Syrian varieties, but familiar Western brands (around JD1200) taste much better, even if they might have higher tar and nicotine content than Western countries. |
