Is there anything I can do to tighten up or eliminate the double chin I've developed as I've gotten older?

Yeah, but it won't be simple or cheap. If your problem is sagging skin, you can try treating your neck with the same antiaging product you might use on your face. But head south carefully, since skin on your neck is more sensitive. Use an alpha hydroxy acid lotion (6 to 10 percent strength) every other morning and a retinol or Retin-A cream three nights a week.

If there's fat stored under that loose skin, you'll need more than lotions. Even more tenacious than spare tires or love handles, fat deposits beneath the chin won't budge no matter how much you work out (unless you're fairly overweight). Exercise gadgets that promise to target that fat are a waste of money.

The only real way to create a sleeker profile is with chin-neck liposuction. A plastic surgeon makes a small incision beneath the chin and suctions fat through a thin tube. You'd wear a chin strap for several days while the tissue heals and the skin begins to snap back. The procedure is relatively painless, but you may feel a pang in your wallet.
